Starcraft 2 Sentry Guide - The Best Strategies, Counters, Rushes And Build Orders For Sentry's In SC2
Looking for a simple Starcraft 2 Sentry Guide to help you use your Sentries to win games? Here are the basics and the important information that you need to know about your Sentries.
Basic Information About Sentries
Your Sentry is a Protoss support unit that is available really early in the game, and you can use it effectively when you place them in the right areas. They were known as Disruptors earlier on in if you ended up hearing about them or using them in Beta or on forums, etc.
Sentries are ground support units with a beam attack that are particularly useful for defense earlier on. You shouldn't use them briskly because of their high cost, so don't spam them out too much - instead make a few and put them in strategic locations.
What They're Great Against
Your Sentries are good against a variety of units, but they really flourish with fights against Mutalisks, Zealots, and Zerglings. Use them really wisely as defense against Zealot and Zerglings rushes and you will be in great shape. Usually it's a great idea to get these guys out if you see that you're playing against a Zerg.
What They Are Not Good Against
Some terrible counters for your Sentries are Stalkers, Hellions, Reapers, and Hydralisks.
You can micromanage them to support the units that are good adgainst Reapers, Hellions, Stalkers, and Hydralisks, and use them together.
Use Them In Choke Points to Help Defend
If you can drop them off to defend in choke points, which will pretty much force your opponent to go in a particular direction, you can funnel them out to really give you an edge. Use them defensively primarily and then you can work with putting them in your enemy's base.
Their Key Purpose is To Defend, So There's No Rushing With Them
The Sentry unit is more of an anti-rush unit than anything else, and you can use them to stop great forces early on. Back them with Zealots and other units and you can be nearly impenetrable.
A Build Order to Get Sentries Up
Do a regular build order with a bunch of Probes and a Gateway at 10/11 Supply, and get a Cybernetics core at 14/19 Supply.
Keep on pumping out Probes and get on Vespene gas early on (but don't abandon your minerals, you never want to be locked out of your mineral intake.)
Around 19 - 21 supply you should start making Sentries with your Chrono boost. Usually two is great to defend.
Bring in some Zealots with them as you're advancing, and micro manage your sentries to use their abilities consecutively to divide your enemy's attack. With this strategy you should be able to have a great economy while you keep on building up within your walls.
